Best Work Is Fleeting Achievements.

If you think news is old the minute it is printed, just ask a Webmaster for a live project sample from his/her portfolio. Usually, the project list is very long but Web work is rarely preserved as pristine work samples. Like a patron witnessing the progress of a commissioned portrait, the moment the artist presents his finished masterpiece, the patron wants changes. Web sites are no different in the hand-off to its owner. So, the question to ask when checking references is not "what site did you build?" but more "which role did you play?" And, how many roles are there? I see six distinct disciplines: Web Producer • Web Strategist • Web Designer • Web Developer • Webmaster • Web Programmer. Me? I don't think I can legitimately claim any part of being a Web Programmer. But this is okay because a Web Programmer is guided by either the Web Strategist or Webmaster and these are my strengths.
My Project List
In getting an online presence launched for this book, I have developed every user experience: this main site, the store for the book, the tee shirt Cafepress store, the book's blog, and strategized its an ebook strategy and viral social campaign. Over the last ten years I've done similar work for non-profits, self-employed, churches, doctors, home businesses, artisans, and retail. My forte is assessing the health of a site, refocusing efforts on the site's DNA, performing content or design CPR where needed, or developing new opportunities.
Teaching Workshops
The Internet can be intimidating. Falsely intimidating. Sometimes, it's just being among like site owners, with some one-on-one, that turns the tide: fears evaporate, myths are debunked, secrets are revealed, solutions are shared, HTML is explained, a path is set for a better course, and more is put into context in an hour than reading six books. My "That Was Easy" workshops span personal one-on-one sessions to weekend camps.
